  • Business: Special educational needs
  • Growth Strategy: Roll-out

Why we invested

Kisimul’s 52-week residential model has been proven to deliver significantly better outcomes for children with the most challenging behaviours. This was an opportunity to support an experienced management team to expand the scale and scope of the company’s provision, building on our strong track record in the healthcare sector.

The result

During the five years of our ownership, Kisimul significantly expanded its two sites in Lincolnshire and added a further six schools and young adult units across the country, increasing its total residential capacity from approximately 50 to 250 beds. In parallel with this growth, the company achieved industry-leading quality ratings across all categories of care and education. In 2011, the company was sold to a management buy-out funded by a consortium of private investors.
