  • Business: TV production
  • Growth Strategy: Product development and international expansion

Why we invested

RDF had a proven track record of developing valuable content with international sales potential – at a time when changes to broadcasting legislation were accelerating the transfer of programme-related rights’ value from broadcasters to production companies. This was a compelling opportunity to help a fast-growing company capitalise on the international sales potential of its domestic content.

The result

During the four years of our ownership, RDF’s profits increased five-fold, largely through the commercial exploitation of UK programme formats in the US, which had been secured and developed with the help of our investment. In 2005, the company completed an IPO on AIM, generating a return of more than three times cost.
